Summer-to-Fall Home Maintenance Tips

All homeowners know that annual home maintenance is a must, a labor of love that can be a little less laborious if you incorporate seasonal home maintenance to your yearly routine.

While doing a full on home maintenance inspection would be great to do every season, this is a list of the most important ones to do post-summer/pre-fall:

1. 1. Clean out your ventilation systems: With the increased use of air conditioning, it’s a good idea to clean out the air ducts of your home. While you’re in the duct cleaning mode, consider cleaning out the dust build-up in your vacuum vents, room fans, stove hood and dryer vents. For a thorough cleaning you may want to consider hiring a qualified air duct cleaner service. If you do opt to hire, be sure to that your contractor is reputable and request a written in home estimate before signing on with the company.
   2. Check your that your sink faucets, bathtubs, toilets, window sills, tiled walls, counter-tops and any other area that has caulking is well sealed and doesn’t have any cracks or separations.
   3. Inspect your windows and doors, including their screens for any wear and tear. Replace and/or fix if necessary.
   4. Inspect your roof for missing or broken shingles, tiles and uplifted roof membranes.
   5. Clean your smoke detectors and check the batteries. Also make sure your fire extinguishers are fully charged.

Once you’ve marked these off your to-do list you can sit back and relax knowing your home is in good condition… at least until the fall-to-winter schedule is up!
